February 2025 – Kaldıraç Issue 283
In the first month of 2025, before Trump had yet taken office, Chancellor Olaf Scholz made a statement that the United States was deliberately destroying Europe’s democratic institutions, as if he had suddenly remembered that there was a country called Germany. Some say this statement is related to the German elections in February. But in any case, a Germany that has surrendered its political will to the US cannot recover itself by such statements. Germany’s female minister, who visited the HTS leader, was humiliated in an interesting way. In fact, this humiliation was at the hands of the USA, which Scholz said “deliberately destroys Europe’s democratic institutions”. When the USA does the humiliation, the German press has no problem with it, but when the new Syrian colonial government, an extension of the USA, does it, the German press makes a fuss.
That must be why the German Chancellor, in order to reclaim his surrendered political will, suddenly begins to say that the United States is destroying democratic institutions in Europe. Indeed, Trump is already demanding that either military spending increases to 5% of GDP (it is currently 2%) or else, he threatens to impose a 100% tax on your goods, even before he has surrendered power.
The very same Trump declares that Canada should become the 51st state of the United States. Whereas Canada is a member of the G7 countries. And moreover, it is linked to the British Royalty. Hence, the new situation is a different one.
Not only that, he also says we will occupy the Panama Canal.
And he says they are going to buy Greenland from Denmark. Who knows when Denmark decided to sell, but it is not as if they will be consulted. In official statements, Denmark stated that it is ready to discuss the matter with Trump and that there is a need to expand the American bases in Greenland. How interesting! It is tragicomic: Sir, of course we will give it to you, but don’t bother, occupy us and we will rejoice that we have the property, don’t pay for nothing! This is what Denmark is saying. Whereas against Russia, we have witnessed and are witnessing their very high-toned speeches. They rage against Russia and tell the rapist, don’t bother, we will prepare ourselves for you. It is an amazing attitude of self-confidence and independence.
If you have a look at all these, you can understand that the war is in fact a war of partition between the Western imperialist powers, that it started as such, that after the dissolution of the USSR, the hegemony of the USA began to be discussed, and that the USA imposed the war for this reason.
Yes, after the Syrian war, the war has turned into a war against Russia and China. The 2008 crisis deeply affected the Western imperialist powers (meaning Japan, Europe and the United States, but there are still 5 imperialist powers: USA, Britain, Germany, France and Japan). They are still in this crisis. The US dollar, though still on its throne, is being shaken. That is why the USA, in order to unite its imperialist rivals, has unleashed the terror of Islamic radicalism on the Syrian arena, which it has found as an enemy. This “terror” was reflected in Europe as well. It did not reflect on the USA and Israel. Much less so in England. But Europe, especially France and Germany, got its share. This plan did not work. This time, in order to bring the entire West back under its banner, the USA has targeted Russia and China in order to colonize them. This plan worked. The bait was taken. And with the Ukraine war, it took the political will of the whole of Europe in its hands. It shook the German and French economies. Today Scholz talks about the destruction of Europe’s democratic institutions, but the head of the German chemical industry warned that this was destroying German industry two years ago. Thus Scholz, with his little brain in his big head, “grasped” this two year too late. When the German government had fallen, the press was in an uproar because its ministers were in an awkward position, and new elections were to be held in a month’s time. They say “good morning after supper” in English exactly for these situations.
Yes, today’s war is a war of Western imperialism against China and Russia, with the aim of colonizing them and thus obtaining new colonies. Accordingly, first Russia and China will be destroyed and subjugated, and then the US will line up the other imperialist powers in order to fulfill its hegemony.
The G7 countries have a smaller economic size than the BRICS countries. And one of these G7 countries, Canada, a member of the British family of nations, is now being threatened by the USA. The Prime Minister of Canada seems surprised by this. Surprise suits his face very well. Denmark behaves like prostitutes trying to appease the invading soldiers. I don’t think Panama will do so, I don’t think Mexico will not resist.
Let’s keep this in mind and return to our main topic, the Middle East.
1
Syria is now being colonized. The tool of this colonization policy is the al-Qaeda and ISIS-linked forces called HTS. These forces, although of course they are very complex on the inside, have been fed, trained and equipped by the USA, Britain, Turkey and Israel.
The USA accepted the leader of HTS, on whose head it put a 10 million dollar bounty, as the new Syrian president, without any elections, etc. And then the entire West lined up to establish relations as if they had received orders.
Turkey declared “victory” as a power that raped its neighbor. This “victory” was first of all applauded by the newly elected US President Trump. The victory that the palace regime needed was handed to them.
The Syrian state has been defeated. And now the process of colonization of Syria has begun.
2
Along with Syria, or the former Syrian state, Iran has also been defeated. Without hesitation, Iran has suffered a serious defeat. While Aleppo and Damascus fell under the attacks of a very small number of gangs, 4,000 Iranian forces were evacuated from the field by Russian planes. This is such a scene that many have begun to wonder whether Iran, Assad and Russia have handed Syria over as part of a deal. In fact, it is impossible to agree with this view. Because Iran has suffered a major defeat. The Assad administration has failed. It is difficult to understand what kind of a deal this would mean.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said, “We defeated Hamas, we defeated Hezbollah, we blinded Iran’s defense systems and damaged its production systems, and we toppled the Assad regime in Syria.”
3
Russia has been defeated. Today, Russia is seeking an agreement or dialog with the new HTS administration for the Tartus bases, and they are asking for support from Turkey, which they say “stabbed us in the back”.
Israel is on the winning side. In this war, the USA has given great support to Israel as part of its war against Iran. In fact, the word “support” is an understatement in this regard. Israel and Turkey are extensions of the USA in the region. Israel is quite clear about this. Israel is actually fighting on behalf of the USA and during the genocide in Gaza, Netanyahu made an applauded speech in the US Congress where he said “we are fighting on your behalf”.
During this period, Israel assassinated Hezbollah leader Fouad Shukur and Hamas leader Haniyeh. These operations were conducted jointly by the CIA and Israel and occurred after the assassination of Qasem. The suspicion that they were involved in the death of the Iranian President and Foreign Minister is still very much alive. Israil razed Gaza to the ground and killed Nasrallah with who knows how many tons of bombs, during the peace agreement proposals.

After Assad left the country, it bombed the Syrian army, leaving it defenseless. And it continues its occupation policy up to the countryside of Damascus. It appears that it is 20 kilometers away from Damascus and continues its occupation. The new administration of Damascus, on the other hand, does not raise a voice against any Israeli aggression.
4
In this situation, the USA has accelerated its plans to launch an attack against Iran. It is almost certain that the Trump administration will follow this path.
The USA wants to mobilize all its forces for an attack against Iran.
Even if Iran were to become a nuclear power, it is unlikely that it will gain any deterrence by declaring it.
Now, in these circumstances, the United States’ attack on Iran is indispensable for its war against Russia and China and for its domination in the Middle East.
It is now making preparations to lead all its forces in the region towards this direction.
5
The Kurds have achieved an important “gain” in the region. We put “gain” in quotation marks. We regard it as important, but it is not yet clear how much of a gain it is.
The Kurds are now being pressed between the USA and Turkey. The Turkish state is accelerating its massacre policies against the Syrian Kurds. Trump finds “Turkey’s security concerns” justified. In a Syria where the Russians are no longer on the scene, this in fact forces the Kurds (a) into a more extensive dialogue with HTS and (b) threatens them at the hands of Turkey.
In the same way that Hezbollah or the Houthis would make a mistake if they did not see the Israeli attacks as US attacks, the Kurds would make that mistake if they considered the attacks of the Turkish Republic independent of the US. We are not saying that the Kurdish movement as a whole is making such a mistake. We know that the USA could not convince the PKK to go to war against Iran. But the USA will not give up on this course. The threat of Turkey is a tool of the US for this purpose.
In this respect, the process that is being put forward in our country, which has no name whatsoever, is neither a peace process nor a solution process. It is neither of both. On the contrary, it is a tactic developed to break the Kurds’ guard and defense. In this regard, the playing field of the USA has widened. It is probably speaking differently to HTS and telling the Kurds “what can we do, this is what we have, make a deal”. Turkey’s foreign minister openly wants the PYD to dismantle itself. This is what they want on the Syrian ground. On the Turkish ground, he is saying “either you bury your weapons or we will bury you with your weapons”. And this is called the peace talks. They say that Öcalan will call for lay down of weapons. It is difficult to consider this probable.
Indeed, today, at this stage of the war, the United States is unlikely to demand that the Kurds lay down their arms. On the contrary, it is possible to imagine that it is moving towards a further goal. Obviously, the United States is giving Turkey what it has in mind and wants Turkey to act together with the Kurds for the war against Iran. All indications of this are present. The trustee policy inside is the most concrete proof of this. The bombardments and massacres carried out by the Turkish Republic against the Kurds in Syria are the most concrete proof of this. Similar to the assassinations carried out by the USA and Israel (perhaps also Turkey) against the leaders of Hezbollah and Iran, this trio will now carry out or want to carry out assassinations against the leaders of the PKK. Thus, it is not an idle thought to assume that they will aim to eliminate the sections of the Kurdish movement that are not subservient to US policies. We are not speaking in the belief that the Kurdish movement does not see this. But the field has become quite favorable for the US, the Turkish state, England and the state of Israel. From this point of view, the force that can disrupt the plans is potentially the Kurdish movement. In this respect, the Kurdish movement is facing a very difficult process.
Whenever the sovereign offers its hand to an enemy, it hides a policy of massacre behind it. Hundreds of examples of this exist. This hand offering is intended to lower the guard, to soften the other side.
6
The Syrian war has reached a new stage. In this new stage, the goal of the invasion of Lebanon and the fall of Iran are the main objectives of the aggressor powers, namely the USA and England in the first place, and Israel and Turkey in the field.
But of course they are not the only ones in the field.
For Israel, whose victory is beyond doubt, the process is not easy. The state of Israel, as a religious terrorist state, is an important power in the eyes of the USA. However, these policies are drawing a serious reaction among Israelis. The Israeli opposition lacks the power of the working class. But despite this, there is a serious opposition. Netanyahu’s policies actually impose great contradictions.
Israel is in a difficult situation economically.
The Israeli army is unable to survive without the help of the United States and Western imperialism. In addition, suicides are spreading within the army.
Gaza has been razed to the ground, so to speak, and yet Hamas continues to exist.
Israel’s iron dome has been repeatedly breached. Hezbollah, the Houthis, Iran have breached it. Therefore, the religious Israeli leadership’s thesis that “Israel is the safest place for Jews” is no longer valid. This is why the attacks against the Houthis by Israel and the United States, including England, are intensifying.
But Israel’s policy of invading Damascus aims to create opportunities and new positioning for a larger attack on Lebanon as a primary objective. And of course, prior to this, massacres against possible resisting forces in Syria are likely to be launched.
And it should be noted that today, the entire struggle in the region has already become one in which all forces are involved.
7
At this point, the only way out is revolutionary resistance in the region. Of course, this resistance is also the only way to expel the imperialist powers from the region.
It is essential to see the possibilities of this.
The Kurdish movement is an organized force. And the line of the revolutionary forces within the entire Kurdish movement from yesterday to today is of great importance for the revolutionary resistance throughout the region. Its ability to fight against the biggest powers of the region is known. Today, however, it is not possible for the Kurdish movement to deal with the situation in this whole area alone.
At this point it is necessary to take a deeper look at the possibilities.
In the three largest countries of the region, Egypt, Turkey and Iran, opportunities for a revolutionary breakthrough exist. In these three countries the working class is well developed.
Egypt is in a severe economic crisis and the Egyptian state has asked for support from Israeli intelligence against a possible revolt. This, of course, cannot be achieved through an Islamic-based development of the movement in Egypt. On the contrary, we are talking about revolutionary resistance. The course of revolutionary resistance is the revolutionary course of the working class.
It is not possible to wage a consistent anti-imperialist struggle through this or that ideology without opposing capitalism, nor is it possible to wage a struggle through Islamic ideology or other identities. This is why we are specifically talking about the revolutionary course of the working class. It is not correct to talk about the common struggle of the peoples in general, while leaving this aside. The fraternity of peoples or the common struggle of peoples only have meaning on the basis of the revolutionary course of the working class. Of course, there are and will be movements that struggle against imperialism and are sincere in this regard. But if the revolutionary course of the working class, the internationalist course of the working class is ignored, there will be no victory.
Egypt is important in this respect.
The same can be said about Iran. Iran is a country where there are serious resistances. It is a country where the working class is well developed. In the case of Iran, it was actually the communists and workers who resisted against the Shah. With their own hands, the communists handed over power to the Islamic factions. And we know how the price was paid for this. Iran is still a capitalist country after all.
Turkey is the country with the most developed working class in the region. After the September 12 defeat, the working class has started to mobilize again today. The Gezi Resistance has disrupted the axis of the ruling power.
Turkey is the only NATO member country in the region. Being a NATO member is not an ordinary situation. The power of the USA and the West in Turkey is not to be taken lightly. The weakness of the revolutionary movement in Turkey has played a major role in the failure of the Kurdish movement to achieve victory. The revolutionary movement in Turkey was late to understand the meaning of NATO mechanisms. And of course there is a price for this, it has been paid.
There is a struggle going on in many parts of our region outside these three countries. It is possible to see this in Iraq and Lebanon.
It is not possible for the states or amorphous, identity-based organizations opposing to the states in the region to achieve results. Nor is it possible for the progress to be achieved in this way to kick imperialism out of our region. For this reason, the role of movements based on the revolutionary course of the working class will be very great and decisive. Even in the countries of the region where the working class is relatively less developed, it is certain that the understandings based on the revolutionary politics of the working class will have a decisive influence. This can also be seen in the Palestinian issue. It is not possible to achieve a result with an ideology based on Islam, no matter how sincere it is. It is not, and if any gains are made, they are temporary. Because the Islamic approach, regardless of the sect through which it develops, does not propose a social system that transcends capitalism. Without the objective of socialism, without a total opposition to the capitalist network of relations, a decisive and correct policy against imperialism cannot be carried out. This is why the importance of the revolutionary course in Palestine reappears. This does not arise from the lack of sincerity of those movements, acting on the basis of religious or other identities. This is not a matter of sincerity. It is a matter of a revolutionary struggle against capitalism that involves the entire region. At this point, the power of revolutionary forces on the ground is of course important. But the first point is the presence of forces, small or large, in the revolutionary course of the working class. It is necessary to see this primarily. This is the only real way out of the chaos in the region. Revolutionary forces, small or large, must clearly assert and claim the revolutionary course of the working class. The internationalist struggle is a struggle on the basis of the revolutionary course of the working class. The working class has no homeland and our region today is passing through a historical period in which physical borders are disappearing and the possibilities for the unity and common struggle of workers throughout the region are objectively increasing. Of course, this revolutionary line will be mature enough to see all the forces struggling and resisting in the region as part of this line. This maturity has a historical basis. Every force that is sincere in its resistance against imperialism will find a place for itself in this struggle.
